No. 4 Alabama lost on the road at No. 15 Missouri, 110-98, Wednesday night at Mizzou Arena. After the Crimson Tide’s second straight defeat, Alabama coach Nate Oats spoke to reporters. But his postgame press conference was cut short due to an arena fire alarm going off.

Nonetheless, here is everything Oats said in a brief opening statement after the road loss.

Oats’ opening statement…

“Obviously not one of our best defensive games. You’ve gotta give them a bunch of credit. They came out ready to go. Starting 12-0, scored 18 before the first media. Getting our guys ready to go is part of my job as a head coach, and I didn’t do a very good job of that tonight. We didn’t start the game out well.

“We didn’t guard. I mean, shoot, we gave up 110 points. I think we gave them a 1.39 today on our defensive end. That’s pretty elite offense. We gave them 21 points off turnovers. They’re top five in the country in steal percentage and gave them 12 steals. They scored off them. We didn’t do a great job prepping our guys for their pressure, and they do a good job.

“But you look at some effort stuff, I mean Caleb Grill ends up with 25 points, but he had 10 rebounds. Nobody more rebounds on our team. Dioubate had 10. Nobody else had four. So for our entire frontcourt to have three and two, Jarin had four; for their guard to out-rebound us that bad, I just think they wanted this game a little bit more tonight, which is a little bit disappointing because we still had a lot riding on this game.

“We were still in full control of our own destiny with the league championship if we won out. We no longer are. And Missouri deserves a lot of credit for it. They’ve got a good team. They’ve been winning a lot of big games. Shoot, they’re 17-1, I believe, at home now. The crowd was into it. Obviously, we helped with that, giving up the 12-0 run. But they got the crowd into it. Even when we cut it to six with about 10 to go there (alarm sounds).

“Perfect, the press conference is over, right? Somebody pulled the fire alarm, is that what we’ve got going? They were on fire tonight, that’s for sure. What’s going on? We’ve known that for about two hours. Somebody else just figured it out. Just keep going, or we have to get out of here? What are we doing? Who’s in charge? We need to be out of there? They were great. We weren’t very good.”
