Following the Future: Alabama commits in action (Aug. 29-31)
Another week, another set of high school football games to be played that will feature Alabama commitments.
This week will see a handful of Bama players begin their senior seasons as Akylin Dear, Caleb Cunningham, Jackson Lloyd, Lotzeir Brooks, Steve Mboumoua, and Ty Haywood will all take the field. A few commits have byes, while Dawson Merritt and Keelon Russell won’t start their 2024 campaigns until next week.
BamaOnLine takes a look at the upcoming matchups for the Tide’s pledges, and when and where they will be played.

Alabama OL commit to be featured on SC NEXT Showcase
Five-star OL Michael Carroll, IMG Academy: One of the top high school games of the week will feature Alabama commit Michael Carroll. Carroll and his IMG Academy (0-1) teammates will play Bergen Catholic on Thursday at 7:00 p.m. local/6:00 p.m. Central.
This game is a part of the SportsCenter NEXT Showcase series.
Four-star OT Jackson Lloyd, Carmel (Calif.) High School: Carroll is not the only Alabama offensive lineman commit playing on Thursday. Jackson Lloyd and his Carmel High School teammates open the season with an away game at Christopher HS, which will be played at 7:30 p.m. local time/9:30 p.m. Central.
Lloyd will fly out to Tuscaloosa to attend their season opener on Saturday.
JuCo DL commit Steve Mboumoua, Summit (Ms.) Southwest Mississippi Community College: A much-talked about player on the BOL Round Table for the past 14 months, Steve Mboumoua begins his collegiate career this week. SMCC plays host to Holmes C.C. on Thursday at 7:00 p.m. Central. Mboumoua, an Alabama signee in the 2024 cycle, is expected to officially arrive in Tuscaloosa later this year.
Four-star RB Akylin Dear, Quitman (Ms.) High School: The nation’s No. 2 running back is set to play his first game as an Alabama commitment. Akylin Dear, who committed to the Tide on Aug. 20, has an away game at Meridian on Thursday at 7:00 p.m. Central. Interestingly enough, Meridian is the alma mater of Dear’s future teammate, running back Daniel Hill.
Five-Star WR Caleb Cunningham, Ackerman (Ms.) Choctaw County High School: Staying in the state of Mississippi, Caleb Cunningham begins his senior season this week as well. Choctaw County will be on the road to take on Parklane Academy on Friday (7:00 p.m. Central).
5-star WR commit talks Bama, recruitment: ‘Nothing has changed’
Five-Star OL Ty Haywood, Denton (Tx.): Ryan High School: Alabama’s highest-rated pledge in the 2025 class will begin his senior season on Friday. Ryan High School starts their 2024 campaign with a road game at V.R. Eaton, with a kickoff time set for 7:00 p.m. Central.
Four-star IOL Micah DeBose, Theodore (Ala.) High School: Theodore (0-1) will play host to Spanish Fort High School on Friday. Kickoff for that game is set for 7:00 p.m. Central.
ICYMI: In-state OL commit talks recruitment, set to attend Bama’s season opener
Legacy OL Mal Waldrep, Phenix City (Ala.) Central High School: Central High School (1-0) is on a 14-game winning streak. They’ll look to extend that to 15 games when they host Lutheran North on Friday at 7:00 p.m. Central.
Four-star RB Anthony “Turbo” Rogers, Montgomery (Ala.) Carver High School: Coming off a 162-yard, one-touchdown performance, Rogers and his teammates will play host to Percy Julian this week. That game at Carver (1-0) will kick off at 7:00 p.m. Central on Friday.
Four-star WR Lotzeir Brooks, Millville (N.J.) High School: It’s the season opener for one of Bama’s most exciting commitments in the 2025 cycle. Lotzeir Brooks, who is just under 1,000 yards away from breaking the state receiving record, begins his season on Friday. Millville will have a neutral site game against Holy Spirit at 7:30 p.m. local/6:30 p.m. Central.

Four-star TE Kaleb Edwards, El Dorado Hills (Calif.) Oak Ridge High School: Edwards and his Oak Ridge (0-1) teammates will be on the road this week for a matchup with San Clemente. They’ll play on Friday at 7:00 p.m. local/9:00 p.m. Central.
Three-star DL London Simmons, Flowood (Miss.) Hartfield Academy: Hartfield Academy (2-0) has won 16 games in a row dating back to last season. They’ll host Simpson Academy on Friday at 7:00 p.m. Central.
Four-star LB Luke Metz, Dacula (Ga.) Mill Creek High School: Mill Creek (2-0) will have their first home game of the season this week. The Hawks will host Archer HS on Friday at 7:30 p.m. local/6:30 p.m. Central.
Top 100 EDGE Justin Hill, Cincinnati (Oh.) Winton Woods High School: Winton Woods (1-0) opened their season with a 16-6 win over Springfield. The Warriors will next have a home game against Kings HS on Friday, with kickoff set for 7:00 p.m. local/6:00 p.m. Central.
Top 100 LB Darell “Duke” Johnson, Eastman (Ga.) Dodge County High School: Johnson and his teammates are 1-0 a season after winning just one game. In their season opener, Johnson recorded two touchdowns on offense, double digit tackles, and forced a fumble. The Indians (1-0) will host Central High School on Friday at 7:30 p.m. local/6:30 p.m. Central.
Punter Alex Asparuhov, Fresno (Calif.) San Joaquin Memorial: San Joaquin (0-1) travels to Christian Brothers on Friday for a matchup that will be played at 7:00 p.m. local/9:00 p.m. Central.
Four-star CB Dorian Barney (2026), Carrollton (Ga.) High School: Carrollton (2-0) is coming off a 28-point win ahead of their contest with Rome this week. They’ll host the Wolves on Friday at 7:30 p.m. local/6:30 p.m. Central.
Top 100 EDGE Ba’Roc Willis (2027 commit), Moody (Ala.) High School: Willis and his Moody HS (0-1) teammates will play at Oxford HS on Friday at 7:00 p.m. You can watch Willis’ season opener highlights – HERE!
Top 100 EDGE JaBarrius Garror (2027 commit), Prichard (Ala.) Vigor High School: Vigor High School (1-0) is coming off a 32-point win, and will host Tuscaloosa County on Friday 7:00 p.m.
