Following the Future: Alabama commits in action (Sept. 5-7)

This type of week in high school football doesn’t come around often.

By Sunday, every single Alabama Crimson Tide commitment will have taken the gridiron this week. All 24 verbal pledges in the 2025, 2026, and 2027 classes are playing high school ball in a three-day stretch. A handful of games were played Thursday, with the bulk of them taking place Friday and Saturday.

Alabama commits in action on Thursday

Five-Star OL Ty Haywood, Denton (Tx.) Ryan High School: Ryan High School faced off against Mansfield Timberview in a neutral site game on Thursday. The Raiders shut out their opponent 28-0 in a dominant performance.

5-star OL commit updates recruitment, talks future of Alabama Football

Four-star RB Akylin DearQuitman (Ms.) High School: Quitman started their season with a 22-6 victory over Meridian. They played Heidelberg on Thursday, dropping that game 14-8 to fall to 1-1 on the season.

JuCo DL commit Steve Mboumoua, Summit (Ms.) Southwest Mississippi Community College: STEVE started his junior college career last week, recording a sack in his team’s loss. The Bears fell to 0-2 on the season following a 30-49 loss to Northeast Mississippi C.C. On Thursday.

5-star QB commit to take the field for the first time this week

Five-star OL Michael Carroll, IMG Academy: Alabama’s other five-star offensive lineman will be back at home on Friday. IMG (1-1) is set to take on Cocoa, with kickoff set for 7:00 p.m. local/6:00 p.m. Central.

Five-Star CB Dijon Lee, Mission Viejo (Calif.) High School: The nation’s No. 4 cornerback returns to the gridiron after a bye last week. Lee and his Mission Viejo (2-0) teammates will play host to Liberty HS on Friday. That game will be played at 7:00 p.m. local/9:00 p.m. Central.

Top 100 DB Chuck McDonald and four-star LB Abduall Sanders, Santa Ana (Calif.) Mater Dei HS: As was the case with Lee, Abduall Sanders and Chuck McDonald did not play last week as they were on a bye. Mater Dei (1-0) returns to the field on Friday for a highly anticipated matchup with Bishop Gorman. That game will kick off at 7:00 p.m. local/9:00 p.m. Central.

Five-Star WR Caleb Cunningham, Ackerman (Ms.) Choctaw County High School: Choctaw County (0-1) will host New Hope on Friday at 7:00 p.m. Cunningham will be at Bama the next day for their game against USF.

Four-star WR Lotzeir Brooks, Millville (N.J.) High School: Dynamic wide receiver Lotzeir Brooks is coming off a sensational season opener in which he scored three touchdowns and, in the process, broke the state record for career receiving touchdowns (54). Millville (1-0) will next take on Atlantic City on Friday.

Five-star QB Keelon Russell, Duncanville (Tx.) High School: Bama’s five-star quarterback commitment is set to take the field for the first time this season. Duncanville High School will face off against South Oak Cliff HS on Friday to begin their 2024 campaign. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.

Four-star TE Kaleb Edwards, El Dorado Hills (Calif.) Oak Ridge High School: Tight end Kaleb Edwards and his Oak Ridge teammates are looking to bounce back after an 0-2 start to the season. They’ll take on McCallie HS on Saturday at 6:00 p.m. Central.

Four-star OT Jackson Lloyd, Carmel (Calif.) High School Another Saturday game on the West Coast will be played between Carmel (1-0) and Seaside. Kickoff is set for 2:00 p.m. local/4:00 p.m. Central.

Four-star IOL Micah DeBose, Theodore (Ala.) High School: Staying with the offensive line, DeBose and his Theodore (0-2) teammates are looking to enter the win column for the first time. They’ll travel to McGill-Toolen on Friday (7:00 p.m.) for a regional game.

Legacy OL Mal Waldrep, Phenix City (Ala.) Central High School: Fellow in-state offensive lineman pledge Mal Waldrep will also be on the road this week. Central HS heads to Smiths Station on Friday for a contest that will kick off at 7:00 p.m.

Four-star RB Anthony “Turbo” Rogers, Montgomery (Ala.) Carver High School: Both Dear and Rogers were at Alabama last Saturday, and both are taking the field this week. Rogers and his Carver (2-0) teammates will play at Johnson Abernathy Graetz (JAG) this Friday at 7:00 p.m.

Three-star DL London Simmons, Flowood (Miss.) Hartfield Academy: Switching over to the other side of the ball, London Simmons and his Hartfield Academy teammates are seeking a 4-0 start. They travel to Cathedral on Friday, with kickoff set for 7:00 p.m.

Top 100 EDGE Justin Hill, Cincinnati (Oh.) Winton Woods High School:Winton Woods’ (2-0) defense has outscored opposing offenses in the first two games of the season. Justin Hill and his teammates are aiming for a 3-0 start when they host Milford on Friday at 7:00 p.m.

Four-star EDGE Dawson Merritt, Overland Park (Kan.) Blue Valley High School: Like Keelon Russell, Dawson Merritt begins his senior season this week. Merritt and his Blue Valley North teammates will have a road game against Blue Valley Northwest. Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m. on Friday.

Top 100 LB Darell “Duke” Johnson, Eastman (Ga.) Dodge County High School After finishing last season with a 1-9 record, Dodge County — under new head coach Philip Brown — is 2-0 this season. They won their last matchup by 30 points. They’ll next have a region game at Academy for Classical Education (ACE) on Friday at 7:30 p.m. local/6:30 p.m. Central.

Four-star LB Luke Metz, Dacula (Ga.) Mill Creek High School: Mill Creek (3-0) is looking to stay undefeated when they host North Gwinnett (2-0) on Friday. Kickoff for this one is 7:30 p.m. local/6:30 p.m. Central.

Punter Alex Asparuhov, Fresno (Calif.) San Joaquin Memorial: San Joaquin Memorial (1-1) will play at Castaic on Friday, with kickoff scheduled for 7:00 p.m. local/9:00 p.m. Central.

Four-star CB Dorian Barney (2026), Carrollton (Ga.) High School: Powerhouse Carrollton is off to a 3-0 start to the season. Up next is a home matchup with Lithia Springs on Friday at 7:30 p.m. local/6:30 p.m. Central.

Top 100 EDGE JaBarrius Garror (2027 commit), Prichard (Ala.) Vigor High School: JaBarrius Garror is off to a blistering start in his sophomore season. He has 13 total tackles, 7 tackles for loss, 5 sacks, and 2 forced fumbles thus far. Vigor (2-0) will next take on LeFlore on the road this Friday at 7:00 p.m.

Top 100 EDGE Ba’Roc Willis (2027 commit), Moody (Ala.) High School: Ba’Roc Willis and his Moody HS (0-2) teammates will host Jacksonville at home on Friday. Kickoff for that matchup is set for 7:00 p.m.
