Former Alabama DL target entering transfer portal
Anthony Lucas just completed his freshman season at Texas A&M. He announced his intentions to enter the transfer portal on Tuesday. The 6-foot-6, 270-pound defensive lineman played in seven games during his first season in College Station where he recorded 10 tackles, one tackle for loss and six quarterback pressures.
Lucas, who is originally from Scottsdale, Arizona, chose the Aggies during the Early Signing Period in December 2021. His top five consisted of Texas A&M, Alabama, LSU, Notre Dame and UCLA. Alabama was considered in the final two-three before he signed.
“The winning culture and great relationship with the coaches,” Lucas told On3 Sports regarding his interest in Alabama last year. “Going to be in the playoff picture every year, and great [player] development.”
Lucas ‘officially’ entered the transfer portal on Wednesday morning.

Anthony Lucas On3 Scouting Summary
A long, strong and fluid athlete with unique dimensions. Sports massive hands and a 7-foot wing span at 6-foot-4.5, 290 pounds. Has rare fluidity and movement skills at his size. Is light-footed and moves quickly. Shows some natural pass rush skills that are not common with bigger defensive linemen. Has the ability to dip and bend in addition to turning speed into power. Also shows his athleticism as a pass catcher on offense.
Alabama adds Maryland tight end
Alabama received its first commitment from the transfer portal last Tuesday. Former Maryland tight end CJ Dippre revealed his plans to transfer to Alabama. He also strongly considered Ohio State. On3 Sports labeled Dippre’s decision as the No. 2 commitment via the transfer portal in the last week.
While the ID of Alabama’s starting quarterback in 2023 remains unknown, the Tide looks to have found a more-than-capable tight end. Dippre (6-5, 250) had 30 receptions for 314 yards and three TDs this season in a good passing attack at Maryland; coincidentally, he caught passes from Alabama transfer Taulia Tagovailoa with the Terps. Dippre has “old-school tight end” size, but could stand to improve as a blocker. Still, his receiving ability is a major selling point. Dippre had TD catches vs. Michigan and Ohio State this fall. He has two years of eligibility remaining.

The process of entering the portal is done through a school’s compliance office. Once a player provides written notification of an intent to transfer, the office enters the player’s name in the database and everything is off and running. The compliance office has 48 hours to comply with the player’s request and that request cannot be refused.
Once a player’s name shows up in the portal, other schools can contact the player. Players can change their minds at any point and withdraw from the portal. However, once a player enters the portal, the current scholarship no longer has to be honored. In other words, if a player enters the portal but decides to stay, the school is not obligated to provide a scholarship anymore.
The database is a normal database, sortable by a variety of topics, including (of course) sport and name. A player’s individual entry includes basic details such as contact info, whether the player was on scholarship and whether the player is transferring as a graduate student.
A player can ask that a “do not contact” tag be placed on the report. In those instances, the players don’t want to be contacted by schools unless they’ve initiated the communication.
