Another former Alabama player is off the free agent market. On Monday afternoon, ESPN insider Adam Schefter tweeted that Rashaan Evans is signing a one-year deal with the Atlanta Falcons. Other details of the contract have not yet been released, but it feels like a good landing spot.

The Falcons are attempting to replace linebacker Foyesade Oluokun, who led the NFL in tackles last season with 192. Last month, he signed a three-year deal with the Jacksonville Jaguars worth between $45 million to $36.4 million. That left a sizable hole in Atlanta’s defense next to Deion Jones.

Coming out of Alabama in 2018, the former five-star linebacker out of Auburn was a first-round pick for the Tennessee Titans. Over the next four years, he accumulated 317 tackles, 15.0 tackles for loss, 3 sacks and 2 interceptions. His best season came in 2019 when he had 111 tackles, 9.0 tackles for loss and 2.5 sacks.

However, the writing was on the wall for an eventual split between Evans and Tennessee soon after the 2020 season. The Titans declined his fifth-year option, re-signed Jayon Brown and drafted Georgia linebacker Monty Rice in the third round of the 2021 NFL Draft.

Now, Evans will have a chance to metaphorically and literally fill a hole for the Falcons.

At Alabama, Evans was an impressive player. He started off as a rotational edge player at outside linebacker. After being asked to get after quarterbacks for a couple of years, Evans slowly started his transition to an off-ball linebacker. By the end of his career, he was a first-round talent with upside for the NFL.

During his four seasons in Tuscaloosa, Evans had 150 tackles, 23.5 tackles for loss, 15 sacks and 2 forced fumbles.
