Bo Scarbrough got his redemption story on Sunday night. The former Alabama running back was able to participate in all four quarters of the first USFL Championship Game since 1985, and he played a key role in his Birmingham Stallions team defeating the Philadelphia Stars 33-30.

Scarbrough was only given 13 carries in the game, but he turned those opportunities into a season-high 135 yards on the ground. The 6-foot-1, 235-pound runner was also the one to score the first touchdown of the USFL Championship, which came on a 36-yard run in the first quarter. Check it out below.

Was that his only chunk gain on the evening? Of course not.

Scarbrough also had an impressive 70-yard run on a cutback in the second quarter. Sure, he might’ve looked out of gas towards the end of it, but he had covered a lot of ground (122 yards) on the four carries he’d been given up to that point.

Scarbrough was a shot in the arm for the Stallions offense. He didn’t join the team until Week 4 of the regular season, but he still found a way to rush for 352 yards and a score in only six games. His 58.7 rushing yards per game were good for third-best among USFL rushers.

After seeing the AAF shut down midseason with Trent Richardson on the Birmingham Iron, it was nice for Alabama fans to see a former Crimson Tide running back carry a team on his back to another championship victory. Hopefully, Scarbrough’s success this season leads to another chance in the NFL.

The former five-star talent was originally selected by the Dallas Cowboys in the seventh round of the 2018 NFL Draft. Unfortunately, he only made it to October before being released from the practice squad. From there, he spent the next 4.5 seasons bouncing around four NFL teams, including the Jaguars, Seahawks, Lions and Raiders.

His best stretch in the NFL came in that stint with the Lions back in 2019.

During a six-game stretch, Scarbrough rushed for 377 yards and a touchdown on 89 carries, including a 98-yard performance against the Washington Commanders on Thanksgiving Day. Yes, it’s true that he isn’t much of a weapon in the passing game, but he’s still good enough to be on an NFL roster.

We’ll see if his success in the USFL leads to another opportunity. If not, he’ll always have what took place on Sunday night.
