Former Alabama WR Javon Baker not transferring to Kentucky after all
Former Alabama wide receiver Javon Baker has been committed to Kentucky since late January. In fact, after entering the transfer portal less than a week after the national title loss against Georgia, the Powder Springs (Ga.) native only took seven days to decide on the Wildcats.
Now almost four months later, Baker is looking for a new place to call home.
On Thursday morning, KSR reported that Kentucky decided to “move on” from Baker with his summer arrival date quickly approaching. Apparently, that news shocked the former four-star receiver, as he took to Instagram to share a few questions of his own. His first post read:
“Just woke up how y’all gone decommitt [sic] for me what kinda ‘sources’ is y’all,” he wrote.
Baker then followed it up with a second post after receiving the news.
“O well [never mind] guess They did decommit me there self [sic] damn I wanted to play for Kentucky,” he later added. “Bigger and better plans the most high got me.”
This has quickly become a wild situation for Baker. The transfer portal is a useful tool for athletes in search of greener pastures, but I guess this situation reveals the ugly side of it. If there’s a silver lining for the pass-catcher, it’s that there will be other options.

Soon after news broke that Baker would not be attending Kentucky, Cats Illustrated’s Justin Rowland reported that Maryland with former Alabama offensive coordinator Mike Locksley in one of Baker’s top suitors.
With Rakim Jarrett, Dontay Demus Jr. and Florida transfer Jacob Copeland already at receiver, would Baker even find more playing time alongside Taulia Tagovailoa and the rest of that Terrapins offense? That’s a question that he’ll have to ask himself before making another decision on a landing spot.
Baker appeared in 21 games for Alabama over his two season in Tuscaloosa. Most of that action came on special teams, but he did bring in nine receptions for 116 yards a touchdown. Coming out of high school, he was a four-star prospect who ranked No. 204 overall in the On3 Consensus. He also checked in as the No. 40 wide receiver and No. 21 player from the state of Georgia.
Prior to commiting to Kentucky, Javon Baker also visited Florida and Ole Miss.
