Alabama forward Aiden Sherrell is officially returning to Tuscaloosa for his sophomore season.

The decision was expected, given what he said after the Elite Eight and BamaOnLine’s nuggets, but Sherrell publicly announced on Saturday he was “running it back” with the Crimson Tide.

Sherrell played in 36 of Alabama’s 37 games this season and averaged 8.8 minutes per contest. The 6-foot-10, 240-pound true freshman averaged 3.4 points and 2.8 rebounds per outing, while shooting 51.1 percent from the field and 33.3 percent from behind the 3-point line.

Sherrell’s best game was a February 1 win over Georgia (90-69) when he scored a season-high 12 points and pulled down seven rebounds. The big man was also 2-3 from beyond the arc.

In both of Alabama’s games in Newark for the Sweet 16 and Elite Eight, Sherrell made multiple 3s in just nine minutes each against BYU and Duke. He was 4-8 in the NCAA Tournament.

A former McDonald’s All-American, Sherrell was a top-25 player in the 2024 recruiting class, per the On3 Industry Rankings. He was the No. 23 overall prospect and the fourth-best center.

Sherrell is the first Alabama player to publicly say he will return for the Tide’s 2025-26 season. A couple of UA players – Naas Cunningham and Mouhamed Dioubate – have already entered the transfer portal, which is open until April 22. Meanwhile, Alabama has also landed a pair of portal players in center Noah Williamson and forward Taylor Bol Bowen.
