Alabama forward Grant Nelson suffered a left leg injury in the Crimson Tide’s loss to eventual SEC Tournament champion Florida, and he did not return to the floor in the 104-82 loss.

After Alabama learned who, where and when it will play in the NCAA Tournament’s first round, head coach Nate Oats spoke to local reporters via Zoom. He offered an update on Nelson and his injury, which was positive but still unclear five days from March Madness.

“We’re hoping to get Grant back,” Oats said. “He’s going to see the knee specialist tomorrow morning and get a better idea of a timeframe on getting him back.

“But he is walking today. It’s swollen, but hopefully, he’ll be back by the first round.”

Nelson limped to the locker room during the final media timeout of the first half of Alabama’s SEC Tournament loss to Florida on Saturday. Before his injury, he recorded nine points, three rebounds, one assist, one block and one steal – and the Tide was in front, 42-41.

Entering the NCAA Tournament, Nelson is averaging 11.8 points and 7.6 rebounds per game while shooting 52.8 percent from the floor. He is shooting just 27.4 percent from 3-point range for the season, but in his last three games, Nelson has made 5-of-11 from deep.

Alabama will open the 2025 NCAA Tournament against No. 15-seed Robert Morris on Friday, March 21, in Cleveland, Ohio. A tip-off time and television channel will be revealed later.
