Alabama issued its final availability report before its game against Mississippi State

Senior guards Latrell Wrightsell Jr. (Achilles) and Houston Mallette (knees) and freshman forward Derrion Reid (hamstring) were ruled out and will not play against the Bulldogs.

But senior forward Grant Nelson was also included on Monday’s initial availability report with an undisclosed issue, listed as probable for the home game at Coleman Coliseum. On the final availability report on Tuesday evening, Nelson’s name was removed altogether.

That means the 6-foot-11, 230-pound forward will play against Mississippi State.

Nelson, a fifth-year senior, has played in all 27 of Alabama’s games this season. The forward is averaging 12.2 points and 7.9 rebounds per game while shooting 54.1 percent from the floor. He is coming off a season-low 15 minutes because of foul trouble versus Kentucky.

The No. 6-ranked Crimson Tide (22-5, 11-3 SEC) and No. 24 Bulldogs (19-8, 7-7) are set to face off tonight in Tuscaloosa. The SEC matchup will tip at 8 p.m. CT and air on ESPN2.

SEC Availability Report Policies

Beginning with the 2024-25 athletics season, all Southeastern Conference schools will provide public reports on the availability of student-athletes to participate in each conference game in the sports of football, men’s and women’s basketball and baseball.

Prior to an SEC basketball game, an institution must issue the Initial Report the night before a game by 7 p.m. CT (or, for an institution that played a game the day before, by 11:00 am local time the day of the game, or two hours before the game starts, whichever is earlier).

On game day, an institution must provide one Game Day Update no later than 90 minutes before game time. On the Game Day Update, the only permissible designation statuses are:

• Available – Will dress for the game and be available to play

• Game Time Decision – Coaches and/or medical personnel need to evaluate the athlete in pre-game warmups before deciding whether he can participate in the game

• Out – Not dressing or available for the game
