This year’s SEC/ACC Challenge will get to see Alabama basketball travel to the home of one of college basketball’s most historic programs, as the No. 10 Crimson Tide will take on No. 20 North Carolina.

This is the second year of the annual SEC/ACC Challenge, with Alabama currently holding an 0-1 record in the event. The Crimson Tide lost a home game to Clemson in the challenge last season, a loss it eventually avenged in the Elite Eight of the NCAA Tournament.

This year’s matchup between Alabama and North Carolina will be the third straight season these two programs have met. Two years ago they met in Portland in the third place game of the Phil Knight Invitational, with Alabama winning a 4-overtime thriller. Last season, these two teams squared off in Los Angeles in the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament, with 4-seed Alabama upsetting 1-seed North Carolina 89-87.

North Carolina has started the season slower than many expected, currently sitting with a 4-3 record with losses to Kansas, Auburn and Michigan State. Alabama is 6-2 on the year, coming off a loss to Oregon in the Players Era championship game. This will be the Tide’s sixth consecutive game against a high-major opponent during this gauntlet of a non-conference schedule.

It’s also a homecoming game for Alabama forward Jarin Stevenson, who is from Chapel Hill and whose mother played basketball for North Carolina.

The game will tip off at 6:15 p.m. CT on ESPN on Wednesday night.
