No. 2 Alabama basketball currently sits at 2-0 on the season coming off a rugged 88-79 win over Arkansas State on Friday. Now, with just two days of rest, the Crimson Tide welcome another tough mid-major to Coleman Coliseum in the form of the McNeese State Cowboys.

McNeese is coached by Will Wade, a familiar face to Alabama fans. Wade was the head coach at LSU from 2017-22, leading a number of strong NCAA Tournament teams and the 2019 SEC regular season champions. Nate Oats and Wade had a number of intense battles during his time in Baton Rouge, including a notable meeting in the 2021 SEC championship game, which Alabama won 81-79.

Wade has turned McNeese into one of the best mid-major teams in the country. Last season, the Cowboys won 30 games and made the NCAA Tournament as a 12-seed, winning the Southland Conference but falling in the first round to Gonzaga.

McNeese has a number of former high-major players brought in by Wade from the transfer portal to make a uniquely talented team for its level, including players from the ACC, Big East, and SEC to name a few.
