Alabama has started the season 3-0, but after a bye week, Kalen DeBoer‘s first SEC test is here in the form of No. 2 Georgia. It’ll be the first meeting DeBoer has had with the Bulldogs, who, under head coach Kirby Smart, have been crowned by many as the new standard in college football following the retirement of Nick Saban.

Smart, who coached at Alabama from 2008-2015 and won four national championships in Tuscaloosa as the defensive coordinator, has struggled against his former school since taking the Georgia job in 2016. Smart holds just a 1-5 record against Alabama while at Georgia, though the one win came in the form of the 2021 national championship.

Saturday night’s primetime clash is one that will draw the eyes of any fans of college football, watching to see if Georgia can stake their claim as the top program in the sport, or if Alabama can prove that even with new leadership, it’s still the standard.
