No. 5 Alabama basketball is hitting the road for the first time in SEC play on Wednesday night, taking on South Carolina.

Though the Gamecocks opened SEC play with a blowout loss to Mississippi State on Saturday and are picked to finish near the bottom of the league standings, they’ve still shown capable of knocking off quality teams. They beat Clemson in the non-conference, a Tigers team that beat Kentucky in the SEC/ACC Challenge.

Playing on the road will be an immense challenge for any team in the SEC this year. The league has the potential to send as many as 12-13 teams to the NCAA Tournament come March, making every road game extremely difficult. On Saturday, the opening day of league play, home teams won seven out of eight games.

South Carolina has a strong frontcourt led by projected first round NBA Draft pick Collin Murray-Boyles. The Gamecocks are also the new home of Nick Pringle, one of Alabama’s top contributors the past two seasons and a key piece during the Crimson Tide’s Final Four run.

This will be Alabama’s first trip to South Carolina since the 2023 season, when freshman Brandon Miller went for 41 points and the game-winning shot in a key road win that helped Alabama win the SEC regular season title.
