In-state LB Quinton Reese ready to represent his home state at the next level
After being committed to Alabama since September 2023, Ramsay High School linebacker Quinton “QB” Reese finally made things official with the Crimson Tide this week.
On Wednesday’s National Signing Day, Reese signed his National Letter of Intent to play for Bama in college. He becomes the third prospect from Birmingham to sign with the program in this recruiting cycle, joining Jaylen Mbakwe and Jeremiah Beaman.
He still has just under four months until his official arrival on campus, but Reese is already itching to get to Tuscaloosa.
“I’m very excited to sign,” Reese told BamaOnLine ahead of his signing. “It’s been a long process. I’m happy that Alabama will be my future home. I’m just ready to start school, start workouts, and just ready to be with the team.”
“It means a lot,” Reese continued. “A lot of people from my city don’t really get this chance and opportunity, so I have to live up to it.”
Reese committed to Alabama on Sept. 16 after collecting an offer on Aug. 1 of last year. Things were a little up in the air after the change at head coach, but Kalen DeBoer and multiple assistants saw him two weeks ago to reaffirm his offer.
Throughout the entire process, what kept Reese solid with the Tide?
“Just the winning culture,” Reese replied. “I want to be around winners my whole life. Alabama is going to be a winning culture, no matter who is the coach. They’re going to always win. That’s why I stayed.”
The three-star Class of 2024 linebacker does not envision a drop-off in the quality of Bama’s program with Nick Saban no longer there. After multiple in-person meetings in the past two weeks, Reese is looking forward to the future with DeBoer at the helm.
“I think he’s a very good person,” Reese said. “Why would you not want to be around Coach DeBoer? He literally just went to the national championship. Why would you not want to be around him? I really like him as a person, not just as a coach.”
Reese on Bama’s future: “We’re going to get us a natty.”
Ahead of his signing, Quinton “QB” Reese took an official visit with Alabama this past weekend.
“My official visit was pretty good. It was just a great opportunity to be on campus again,” Reese said. “Being around the players, talking with the coaches, and actually being in the facility.”
While in Tuscaloosa, Reese was hosted by incoming senior linebacker Justin Jefferson. The two talked with one another about their similar build at the linebacker position and how they’ve made the most of their opportunities on the gridiron. Reese also spent time around the aforementioned Beaman and Mbakwe.
Returning to DeBoer, Reese was praised by Alabama’s 28th head coach for what he brings to the table.
“We had a great talk just about a lot of football and me getting into the program. How I’d play at my position,” Reese said. “He loves my instincts, and he says I’m a student of the game and can play inside linebacker. I’d be playing the inside, either the ‘Mike’ or ‘Stinger.'”

Freddie Roach has been the constant on Bama’s staff in their pursuit of Reese, and is thought of highly by the Alabama signee.
“Coach Roach, him and I have always had a good relationship, even before I had the Alabama offer,” Reese said. “He has always been there for me. He came to watch my state championship game and came to some more games. I like Coach Roach a lot.”
Defensive coordinator Kane Wommack once again caught up with Reese on his official visit after seeing him two weeks ago. Wommack likes the 5-foot-11.5, 210-pounder’s fit in his defense.
“I think he’s a really good person,” Reese said. “Coach Wommack and I talked a lot about football and defense. We watched film on the defenses that he coached at South Alabama. It was really just showing me where I’d be in the 4-2-5 defense and the different strategies of the defense.
“I love that defense,” Reese continued. “I ran that defense in high school, so it’s not really going to be anything new to me.”
Reese was accompanied by his parents on the official visit, with both of them approving of their son’s decision to stick with Bama.
“They really just like everything,” Reese said of his parents. “The culture of Alabama. Being around the program, the games, and the coaches. They know that they actually care for me and want the best for me at all times. My mom and dad love Coach Roach a lot. They’re really like best friends, for real.”
Reese was named the Class 5A Lineman of the Year in the state of Alabama last week. The highly productive linebacker recorded 167 tackles, 25 tackles for loss and four sacks during the 2023 season.
To close out his conversation with BOL, Reese had one final message for Bama’s fan base.
“Just know, you all are going to get a hard worker day in and day out,” Reese said. “We’re going to get us a natty.”
