In-state TE Jay Lindsey announces commitment to Alabama
Jay Lindsey, three-star tight end from Patrician Academy in Butler, Alabama, has announced his commitment to the University of Alabama. The 6-foot-4, 235-pounder committed to Mississippi State in April. He backed off his pledge to the Bulldogs this past weekend. Alabama extended an offer on June 15 after his performance in the Nick Saban Football Camp and have pushed hard to earn his commitment.
Lindsey, who grew up an Alabama fan, was asked by Coach Saban during the spring to return for a summer camp for an in-depth evaluation. The AISA product plays in a run-heavy offense, and told BOL he may receive two total targets each game. He made a statement in front of Coach Saban during the one-day camp in Tuscaloosa.
“He told me that I ran good routes, and I blocked well,” Lindsey told BOL last month. “Coach Saban said this was no disrespect, but they couldn’t offer me based on just film. I was a man amongst boys out there. They wanted me to camp and get an evaluation on me.”

The former Mississippi State commitment did not immediately flip upon earning the offer from Alabama. He still considered himself a solid commitment to Zach Arnett’s program. Lindsey, however, returned to Tuscaloosa for the Champions Cook-Out on July 29.

The return visit helped push the Tide over the edge for the in-state prospect. Lindsey was recruited by Alabama assistants Freddie Roach and Joe Cox.
“I just really like overall program,” Lindsey said earlier this summer regarding his interest in Alabama. “What is there not to like? They win. My grandparents were always diehard Alabama fans. Alabama was always the school we watched when I was younger.”
Lindsey is commitment No. 19 in Alabama’s 2024 recruiting class. He is the second tight end commitment joining Caleb Odom, the No. 28 overall player in the On300.
