Kalen DeBoer saw 'good energy' in first practice back from spring break

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Alabama was back on the practice field on Tuesday morning, resuming its spring camp after the university’s 9-day spring break. It was the fourth of 15 practices for the Crimson Tide this spring, and Kalen DeBoer was pleased with the team’s approach.
“A good practice,” DeBoer said. “Just a lot of work from beginning to end. Second day with shells on, and so, you saw the physicality ramp up. Good energy coming off of spring break.
“I’ve seen times over the course of the years where there’s a lull. Didn’t feel like that was the case at all. Guys were ready to go. And I think having three practices before we took the break got their minds on football. I think that’s always a big deal. It just keeps them thinking about what they should be working on, focusing on, the priorities, and they come back ready to go.”
Tuesday’s workout on the Thomas-Drew Practice Fields marked the second in shells (helmets, shoulder pads and shorts) for Alabama. Soon, the Tide will don full pads for the first time as the team makes its way through the 15-practice slate that ends with the A-Day Game.
Alabama will have two more practices this week and then three more next week, which will also include the first scrimmage of the spring. It will be closed to both reporters and the public.

The Crimson Tide has traditionally practiced prior to spring break, and a popular question is if the first practice back will be hard for the players. DeBoer has had those apprehensions in the past, but most of the 2025 team spent portions of their time off training on their own.
DeBoer liked what he saw on a 68-degree day in Tuscaloosa.
“I’ve had times where we’ve taken up to two weeks off, and I got nervous about that one time and the guys coming back, and just like we did today, came back ready to go,” DeBoer said.
“It’s good. It’s gonna go really fast here because all of a sudden Practice 4 is over. We’re gonna get through the weekend, and by the end of next week, we’ll have a scrimmage next Thursday. It’s gonna happen pretty quickly, and when you get to that point, you’re almost half done with the whole 15 practices.
“But the guys were sharp. Again, beautiful weather out there. So how could you not enjoy the day that we had.”
