Duncanville, Texas, quarterback Keelon Russell continues to rise up the rankings.

Russell has steadily climbed the rankings throughout On3’s recent updates. He went from the No. 80 overall player and No. 8 quarterback before his Elite 11 Finals MVP in June, to No. 37 overall the next month, to No. 25 overall in our September update.

The blue-chip signal caller has made yet another major jump in the rankings.

On Monday, Russell landed at No. 3 overall in the latest update to the 2025 On300. He’s now the No. 2 quarterback in his class (behind LSU commit Bryce Underwood) and the top-ranked player in the state of Texas. Russell now becomes Bama’s highest-rated commitment in the 2025 class, per On3’s rankings.

This significant rise was powered by Russell’s sensational senior season, in which he’s thrown for 45 touchdowns compared to just two interceptions. He also has 3,079 passing yards on 70.8 percent completion, while guiding Duncanville to a 10-0 record and a first-round playoff win last week.

Russell is also now a member of the Five-Star Plus+ club. This is a group of prospects who are ranked as a five-star by all four recruiting media rankings services (On3, ESPN, 247, and Rivals). Russell is the only Alabama commitment to earn Five-Star Plus+ status in the 2025 class.

Russell’s trainer, Brad Stanfield, said the following about the future Bama signal caller following Duncanville’s impressive win over No. 11 St. Frances Academy in September.

“What stood out in this game was ownership of the offense and accurately placing the football,” Stanfield told BOL after the game. “The execution of the offense, moving through progressions, pre-snap/post-snap process, those things you see from Keelon every week. We’ve been seeing that every week from him. How he operates mentally is the intangible that Keelon has that separates him. Has all the makeup on the field with impulse control, tracking capacity, search efficiency, these traits that show up at high levels consistently to execute an offense. That’s what I love most about Keelon.”

As for his recruitment, Keelon Russell has been firm with his Tide commitment since joining the class on June 4. He returned in July for the Champions Cook-Out, and was also back in Tuscaloosa for the Georgia game on Sept. 28.

He informed BOL a couple of weeks ago that his recruitment is shut down.

“Just them believing in me,” Russell told BOL earlier this month. “Knowing how they can make me a better quarterback. Make me the best quarterback at Alabama. Knowing where I’m going to be headed after everything is said and done with Alabama. Just the future in hand, really.”

Russell is focused solely on his senior season and winning another state championship at Duncanville. He’ll officially sign with Bama on Dec. 4, and arrive on campus as an early enrollee. He’s also set to participate in the Under Armour All-America Game in Orlando in January.
