Latrell Wrightsell injury update: Latest on Alabama guard after Oregon game
Alabama guard Latrell Wrightsell left Saturday’s game against Oregon with a leg injury in the second half and did not return to the Crimson Tide’s loss to the Ducks in Las Vegas.
Following the 83-81 defeat, Alabama head coach Nate Oats offered an update on Wrightsell.
“He’s got a lower-leg injury,” Oats said. “They’re concerned about his Achilles, which obviously wouldn’t be good. They’re gonna get him evaluated once we get back. So we’ll get an MRI and see what we’ve got going. We’re keeping our fingers crossed there.”
Prior to his injury, Wrightsell scored 10 points in 15 minutes, shooting 3-of-5 from the floor and 2-of-4 from the 3-point line. The redshirt senior entered the Players Era Festival championship matchup averaging 11.7 points per game and shooting 49 percent from the field. Wrightsell had scored in double figures in six of Alabama’s eight games this season.
A transfer from Cal State Fullerton, Wrightsell played in 31 of the Crimson Tide’s games a year ago but missed time, including during the NCAA Tournament, due to multiple head injuries. His latest setback is different but, based on Oats’ postgame comments, more severe.

Wrightsell is in his fifth and final year of college basketball. A season-ending injury would mean a premature end to his collegiate career. He has played in 111 games, including tonight.
Alabama is already without transfer guard Chris Youngblood, who is expected to make his Tide debut next month. Oats also elected to redshirt transfer guard Houston Mallette. The Wrightsell injury leaves UA’s backcourt to Mark Sears, Aden Holloway and Labaron Philon.
Next time out, Alabama (6-2) will travel to play North Carolina on Wednesday, December 4.
