Latrell Wrightsell remains day-to-day before road trip to Florida
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Will Latrell Wrightsell be available for Alabama’s game at Florida?
Crimson Tide coach Nate Oats offered the latest on the senior guard after Monday’s practice.
“He’s been doing some basketball skills,” Oats said. “He’s gotta get to a point where he can practice and then not have any type of headache the following day.”
Wrightsell suffered the head injury two weeks ago in practice and has not played in contests against Florida (at home), Kentucky, Ole Miss and Tennessee. He went through warmups and was on the bench for Alabama’s home loss to the Vols this past Saturday, but Oats revealed that Wrightsell was close to making his return before another headache.
“He was on a comeback protocol and then it got reset because he had a setback in it,” Oats said. “It’d be nice to get him back. Again, it’s day-to-day. We’ve gotta see how he’s able to respond the next morning because once they go back to having a headache, they kind of start back at Day 0 again.

“But he’s coming along. As you could tell, he can shoot. He wasn’t doing anything live yet then.”
Wrightsell has played in 25 of the Crimson Tide’s games this season, his first with the team after transferring from Cal State Fullerton, and he has been in the starting lineup for each of his last seven games. Wrightsell is averaging 9.0 points per game on the year but averaged 18.5 points during his last two outings and shot 10-of-17 from behind the 3-point line.
Wrightsell is shooting 42.4 percent from the field, 44.5 percent from three and 100 percent from the free-throw line this year. He is currently fifth in the SEC in three-point percentage. Wrightsell has scored double-digit points in eight games, and the Tide has won all eight.
Freshman forward Jarin Stevenson replaced Wrightsell in the starting lineup in each of the last four games. Other young players have stepped up in Wrightsell’s absence, with Sam Walters scoring 14 points against Florida and Davin Cosby adding 15 points at Ole Miss.
Tomorrow’s Alabama-Florida game is scheduled to tip off at 6 p.m. CT and air on ESPN.
