Nate Oats provides update on injured forward Derrion Reid
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — Alabama was shorthanded in Sunday afternoon’s win over South Dakota State, as freshman forward Derrion Reid missed the game with an ankle injury suffered in practice earlier this week. He was seen with a boot on his right foot during pregame warmups.
After the game, head coach Nate Oats updated the status of Reid moving forward.
“He’s got an ankle injury that he sustained in practice two days ago,” Oats said. Little bit of a flare-up from a summer injury. We’re hoping that clears up quickly and he can practice by the middle of the week, get him ready for Oklahoma.”
Reid, a McDonald’s All-American and 5-star recruit out of high school, has started multiple games for Alabama this season. The 6-foot-6 forward is averaging 7.5 points and 3.7 rebounds per game this season, while shooting 45.8 percent from the floor.

Over the past month Reid has started to turn a corner in his adjustment to the college game, being trusted by head coach Oats in many late-game situations due to his stellar defensive efforts. Alabama will have nearly a week off until its next game next Saturday to get Reid healthy for SEC play.
The Crimson Tide’s next game will be at home on Jan. 4 against Oklahoma, with tipoff set for 5 p.m. CT.
