TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — Alabama head coach Nate Oats addressed local reporters on Monday afternoon ahead of the Crimson Tide’s Tuesday matchup with Vanderbilt, and provided an update on injured forward Derrion Reid.

“He’s doing more and more every day. He did more today. He’s still not doing everything in practice,” Oats said. “He’ll probably be questionable, we’ll see where he’s at tomorrow. It’s one of those injuries where if you bring him back too fast it could be season-long lingering, never 100 percent with the way he plays. He’s got to be explosive, athletic, attacking the rim, flying around, making plays. He’s just not gonna be great if he’s got a lingering injury that’s keeping him from being explosive.

“He’s doing more and more, he’s antsy to play, but we’re not gonna be stupid and bring him back too early and have him be injured the rest of the year.”

Reid has missed the last two games with a “lower body injury,” per a UA spokesperson. He previously missed the Crimson Tide’s Dec. 29 game against South Dakota State with an ankle injury and was seen wearing a walking boot. He played in the next three games following his absence, but appeared on the pregame injury report before last week’s game against Ole Miss.

He was listed as “questionable” against both Ole Miss and Kentucky, and didn’t play against either.

Reid has been a major contributor for Alabama this season, coming off the bench for a majority of the year. The former McDonald’s All-American is averaging 8.1 points and 3.4 rebounds on the season, and been one the team’s best defenders. In his last outing, Reid scored 11 points in the Tide’s road win over Texas A&M a little over a week ago.

Alabama’s game against Vanderbilt will tip off tomorrow night at 6 p.m. CT and will air on SEC Network.
