Alabama players – and Nick Saban – had some fun in the middle of summer workouts.

Several of the Crimson Tide’s veterans spent time out on the lake with Saban earlier this week as a part of the team’s annual Leadership Lake Day, riding jet skis and inner tubes near Saban’s Tuscaloosa, Ala., residence. And Alabama’s video team captured some moments from out on the water, sharing them via Twitter in photo and video form on Monday and Tuesday.

Some of the Tide players that were featured included running backs Jase McClellan and Roydell Williams, wide receivers Ja’Corey Brooks and Jermaine Burton, offensive linemen JC Latham, Seth McLaughlin and Darrian Dalcourt, defensive lineman Justin Eboigbe, linebackers Deontae Lawson, Trezmen Marshall, Dallas Turner and Quandarrius Robinson, defensive backs Malachi Moore, Kristian Story and Jaylen Key and placekicker Will Reichard, among others.

Alabama has to replace all three of its permanent team captains from last year’s team as Bryce Young, Will Anderson and Jordan Battle all turned pro following the 2022 season. And while Saban said in the spring that the leadership group is still a work in progress, he was pleased by some of the things he saw on the offensive side of the football during UA’s spring drills.

“The offensive line has probably done the best job of, I think, on our team of sort of creating the type of toughness, the type of intangible character that we’d like our team to play with,” Saban said. “There’s (Tyler) Booker, JC, the two centers. All those guys I think have done a really good job impacting it.

“I think the way the running backs play, the competitive character that they play with impacts a lot of people on the team. I certainly think Kendrick Law is one of those guys that’s kind of a tough, hard-nosed, play-hard guy all the time, and I think he impacts the receiver group.

“So I think there’s quite a bit of guys on offense that are contributing to develop the kind of chemistry and character that we’d like to have on the offensive side of the ball.”

Added Latham in the spring, “I remember coming in my freshman year not really knowing what to expect. I came from IMG, so I had some kind feel for it. But ultimately, you know I’ve never been to college, coming straight out of high school. It’s new for everybody, so I’m just trying to take them along and just make sure they know what they’ve got to do on and off the field.

“And just making sure they’re enjoying their time and they’re having fun because trust and having fun and all that stuff is what it’s all about.”
