Alabama WR John Metchie tears ACL, ending his season
UPDATE: On Sunday, Alabama coach Nick Saban confirmed that John Metchie had torn his ACL and would miss the remainder of the season.
ATLANTA, GA. — Alabama was able to win on the scoreboard Saturday after beating No. 1 Georgia 41-24 in the SEC Championship. Unfortunately, that win doesn’t mean the Crimson Tide escaped the game without any losses.
Star wide receiver John Metchie left the game in towards the end of the second half due to what can only be described right now as a leg injury. Soon after the game, coach Nick Saban went as far as to say that the junior pass-catcher is “probably going to be out awhile.”
Saban didn’t elaborate on Metchie’s injury or status any further, but he did say that there will be added opportunities for other wide receivers on Alabama’s roster.
“I think we have some young guys that are going to get opportunities now,” Saban told reporters.
So, who are some of those younger guys?
Well, Jacorey Brooks has already seen an uptick in playing time recently, especially when Jameson Williams was ejected during the Iron Bowl for targeting on punt coverage. Brooks, a five-star freshman, had two catches for 49 yards and a game-tying touchdown, but only secured one catch for nine yards against the Bulldogs on Saturday.

We’ll also probably see more of Traeshon Holden, as well as JoJo Earle if he’s able to get back on the field after suffering a leg injury of his own several weeks ago.
Regardless of who is asked to step up, losing Metchie will be a blow to Alabama’s offense. He had already racked up six catches for 97 yards and a touchdown in the first half against Georgia. He’s proven to be the perfect complementary option to the vertical threat in Williams.
Stay tuned for more updates on Metchie’s health.
