Nick Saban provides updates on Bryce Young, Jaylen Moody
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — Alabama has a significant road game coming up this weekend against an undefeated, top-10 team in Tennessee. On Wednesday evening, head coach Nick Saban provided injury updates on two key players who were forced to sit out against Texas A&M this past Saturday.
First, it was an update on star quarterback Bryce Young, who suffered a shoulder injury in a Week 5 road victory over Arkansas. There hasn’t been anything decided on the reigning Heisman Trophy winner’s status for this upcoming game, but he continues to work towards being available.

“Bryce continues to practice a little bit more,” Saban told reporters. “We’ve got him on a little bit of a pitch count just to kind of wean him back into it and see how it goes. So we expect him to do even a little more tomorrow. That’s all I really have to say about that.”
Obviously, Young’s presence would provide Alabama’s offense with a significant boost.
Through a little over 17 quarters of football, the junior has completed 67.2% of his passes for 1,202 yards, 14 touchdowns and only three interceptions. Young is widely considered one of — if not — the best quarterbacks in the country, and there was a clear difference in the offense’s success with him on the sidelines against the Aggies.

Hopefully, he’ll continue to take the necessary steps towards playing this Saturday.
As for the other player, it’s senior inside linebacker Jaylen Moody. He was a surprise scratch this past weekend after dealing with a bruised kidney. Obviously, that doesn’t sound like it’d be a fun injury, but according to Saban, Moody is on track to play in this weekend’s top-10 showdown.
“He’s practiced all week, and he hasn’t had any complications,” Saban said. “So I think he’ll be OK.”
Second-year linebacker Deontae Lawson did a nice job filling in for Moody against Texas A&M, but I’m sure it’ll be beneficial for Alabama to get its linebacker corps back to full strength. This is going to be an important unit against a mobile, talented quarterback like Tennessee’s Hendon Hooker.
Stay tuned for more updates.
