Nick Saban releases statement on incident involving Alabama WR Jermaine Burton
On Saturday, Alabama suffered a tough 52-49 loss to Tennessee on the road. Obviously, there’s a lot of emotions involved in a top-10 rivalry matchup with College Football Playoff implications, but wide receiver Jermaine Burton might’ve allowed his emotions to get the best of him postgame.
For those who are unaware, a video was taken soon after the game that appears to show Burton making contact with a fan. That video was posted on TikTok which the caption, “Jermaine Burton smacking me in the head while walking past him after their loss Saturday.”

Obviously, these are matters that will need to be taken seriously by Alabama, especially head coach Nick Saban. On Wednesday morning, Saban released a statement. It was brief, but it did say that the team is aware of the situation and will be gathering more information.

“We are aware of the situation with Jermaine Burton as he was exiting the field Saturday. We are currently working to gather more information.”
Through seven games, Burton is sixth on the team in targets with 26. He’s fourth, however, in receiving yards (266) and tied for second in receiving touchdowns (3). His 14.78 yards per catch also ranks second for Crimson Tide players who have three or more receptions on the year.
With that said, the Georgia transfer should probably rank higher in some of these categories. At 306 snaps, he’s played 54 more than the next highest receiver, which is Traeshon Holden at 252. Unfortunately, he just hasn’t been able to make the impact many were hoping. His biggest concern should be the incident on Saturday, however.
