Nick Sheridan remaining at Alabama despite Ryan Grubb hire, per report
Alabama announced through its collective, Yea Alabama, on Sunday night that Kalen DeBoer will hire Ryan Grubb as his offensive coordinator for the 2025-26 college football season.
The only problem with that is Alabama didn’t have an offensive coordinator opening to fill.
Nick Sheridan served as the Crimson Tide’s offensive coordinator in Year 1 of DeBoer’s tenure, but according to ESPN’s Adam Rittenberg, Sheridan will remain in Tuscaloosa despite his role being filled by his former colleague. The same applies to wide receivers coach and co-offensive coordinator JaMarcus Shephard as both will remain on DeBoer’s staff.
Official titles of the Tide’s offensive coaches have yet to be made public by the program.
According to ESPN’s Pete Thamel, Grubb will call plays for Alabama’s offense this year.
When Grubb, who was initially set to be the Tide’s play-caller this past season, left for the same job with the Seattle Seahawks, DeBoer promoted Sheridan from tight ends coach to coordinator and quarterbacks coach. Sheridan called plays for DeBoer’s first year at UA.

Sheridan led an Alabama offense that finished 22nd in the nation in scoring offense (33.8 points per game), 47th in rushing offense (173.85 ypg), 56th in passing offense (236.4 ypg) and 42nd in total offense (410.2 ypg). The Tide also finished 12th among all FBS programs in third-down conversions (47.27%) and ninth in red zone TD conversions (74.47%).
As things sit, Alabama has one too many on-field coaches on the offensive side of the ball and clear roles for all coaches have yet to be announced. But DeBoer now has three assistants who were with him at Washington from 2022-23 on his offensive staff at Alabama.
