On3 rankings update includes four Top 100 Alabama commitments

Two Alabama commitments rank in top 20-overall
Julian Sayin, quarterback from Carlsbad High School in California, made a big leap in the latest update as he rose 30 spots from No. 46 to No. 16. Sayin is also ranked as the No. 2 quarterback in the country, only behind five-star Dylan Raiola.
Sayin was named MVP of the Battle Miami 7-on-7 tournament in January. National recruiting experts, including Sam Spiegelman, evaluated the Tide commitment during the event.
“The 6-foot-3, 190-pounder arrived in Miami with a thicker frame, and it showed as Sayin fired out the football and made good decision after good decision, a notable theme to the Carlsbad (Calif.) QB’s game,” Spiegelman said in his top performers feature. “Sayin didn’t shy away from squeezing the ball into tight windows in the middle of the field or taking chances outside the numbers.
“He threw his receivers open and put some oomph on throws when necessary and dropped it in on other attempts. The ball flies out of Sayin’s hands, as the Alabama commit kicked the offseason off in compelling fashion.”
Jaylen Mbakwe ranks one spot ahead of Sayin as the No. 15 overall player in the On300. Mbakwe dropped nine spots from his previous No. 6 overall ranking. Mbakwe was also previously ranked as the No. 1 athlete. Terry Bussey from Timpton High School in Texas moved ahead of Mbakwe as the top athlete in the country.
Mbakwe is ranked as an athlete, but he is recruited to play cornerback for the Crimson Tide. The Clay-Chalkville High School star remains the No. 1 player in Alabama. Mbakwe will return to Tuscaloosa for Junior Day this weekend.

Perry Thompson, four-star wide receiver from Foley High School and Sterling Dixon, four-star linebacker from Mobile Christian School, fell victim to a few in-state players moving up in the latest rankings update. Each player moved one spot with Thompson moving to No. 56 from No. 57. Dixon went from No. 61 to No. 62.
Dixon’s position also changed from EDGE to linebacker. He told BamaInsider last week that Alabama expects to play him at inside linebacker. He has been an EDGE rusher throughout his high school career.
Thompson was previously ranked as the No. 2 player in Alabama, with Dixon ranked No. 4 per On3 Sports. Three in-state players moved ahead of the two Alabama commitments. Cam Coleman, four-star wide receiver from Central High School in Phenix City, went from not ranked to No. 20 overall.
