TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — Alabama’s wide receiver room returns a ton of talent for the 2025 season, bringing back starters Ryan Williams and Germie Bernard alongside several contributors such as Cole Adams and Rico Scott.

But the Crimson Tide also brought in two freshmen wide receivers in the 2025 signing class, both of whom are already in Tuscaloosa and practicing with the team this spring: Derek Meadows and Lotzeir Brooks.

Following Alabama’s fourth practice of spring training on Monday morning, Crimson Tide head coach Kalen DeBoer was asked about the pair of freshmen and how they’ve been looking throughout spring.

“Derek, when you look at him out there, you can pick him out anywhere, right?” DeBoer said. “He’s long and has a presence about him. I saw a one-on-one rep today that was really neat to see him use his body. Sometimes guys that are like that, they’ve got that presence, but they don’t use it. And he used it. Really got a long wingspan, so just get the ball in the vicinity, and he’ll come down with it.”

Meadows comes in as the No. 15 ranked receiver in his recruiting class. He’s easily the tallest receiver in the room, standing at 6-foot-6. He provides size that was lacking in last year’s room, as only one receiver on the team was over 6-foot-1.

“Lotzeir is really explosive,” DeBoer said. “They’ve both got a lot to learn when it comes to just feeling comfortable in the offense, and when that happens, then being quarterback-friendly and being where you’re supposed to be, especially on time. But Lotzeir’s got some of those instincts. Sometimes it’s hard to find guys. It’s not hard to find him. And he can finish those plays. When a ball is in the air, he can get that little burst to get underneath of it. Those ones that are just off the fingertips, it seems like he’s finding a way to haul them in. Got that little extra juice and can make good outside-the-body type of catches.”

Brooks is the opposite of Meadows in size, standing at only 5-foot-9 and weighing 188 pounds. While he’s much smaller in stature, he’s extremely quick and explosive. He’s not only caught the attention of DeBoer, but his teammates as well.

“Lotzeir Brooks, he’s doing really great,” Alabama safety Bray Hubbard said. “That dude’s fast. That sucker, he’s hard to keep up with, I will say. I ain’t even gonna lie. He’s hard to keep up with.”

It’s still unclear how much Meadows and Brooks will see the field this season given the aforementioned returning talent alongside incoming transfer Isaiah Horton, former cornerback-turned-receiver Jaylen Mbakwe, and so on. But it’s clear the talent each possess as they’ve made their early impressions on this team.

“Really like what we see early on with those two guys,” DeBoer said.
