Priority DB target Zabien Brown commits to Alabama
Nick Saban and his staff at Alabama have once again struck gold in California this recruiting cycle.
With five-star quarterback Julian Sayin already in the fold, Bama landed yet another key target from the state on Sunday afternoon: Zabien Brown. The Santa Ana (Calif.) Mater Dei cornerback committed to Alabama over Ohio State and the nearby USC Trojans. Mater Dei is also the same school that former Crimson Tide quarterback Bryce Young attended.

BREAKING POD: What the addition of elite CB Zabien Brown means for Alabama’s 2024 class
Per the 2024 On3 Industry Rankings, Brown is the No. 62 overall player in the 2024 class. He also checks in as the No. 7 cornerback and the fifth-ranked rising senior in California.
Alabama’s pursuit of Brown officially began with an offer on June 8, 2021, before he even began his sophomore season of high school. Brown would go on to make the cross-country trip to Tuscaloosa three times this year. The last of those trips was an official visit from June 23-25, which likely helped seal the deal in Bama’s favor.

Brown says he relished his time in T-Town last month.
“When I go on these visits, I try to see if I get a home feeling. I did [get that at Alabama],” Brown previously told On3. “I grew up in Texas around that type of Southern area. So, it was cool to be around that again. Simple things, like going down to the lake, seeing the trail, and the big backyard with no fences.”

ICYMI: “The sky is the limit” for new Alabama OL commit Zykie Helton
After visiting Alabama three times in 2023, Brown had the following to say about his thoughts on the program as a whole.
“I would say my main takeaways were that the perception of Alabama is they’re a factory, they don’t care about you… they recruit the best guys year in and year out, but that doesn’t mean they don’t care about their dudes,” Brown said. “I liked the way they treated all their guys.”
Adding Brown to the fold marks yet another big win for secondary coach Travaris Robinson in this class. The Tide already hold pledges from five-star Jaylen Mbakwe (No. 17 overall on On3) and Jameer Grimsley (No. 11 cornerback on On3). This is the highest-rated trio at cornerback committed in a class in the 2024 cycle.
Another interesting note is that Brown is high school teammates with Brandon Baker and Nathaniel Frazier, both of whom are 2024 prospects with Alabama offers. Frazier officially visited Tuscaloosa last month the same weekend as Brown did.
