Alabama offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb is expected to be hired by the Seattle Seahawks, according to multiple reports. But he might not be the only new Crimson Tide assistant on the move less than a month on the job. According to ESPN’s Adam Rittenberg, Alabama offensive line coach Scott Huff is also expected to join the Seahawks in the same role.

There is good news for Kalen DeBoer and the Crimson Tide, however, as the other assistants who followed him from Washington, JaMarcus Shephard and Nick Sheridan, are both likely to stay at Alabama, per Rittenberg. Shephard and Sheridan would be co-offensive coordinators with Sheridan possibly replacing Grubb as play-caller and quarterbacks coach.

Sheridan coached tight ends under DeBoer for the last two seasons after replacing him as the offensive coordinator at Indiana from 2020-21. They worked together in Bloomington, Ind., in 2019 before DeBoer was hired as the head coach at Fresno State. Sheridan also has passing game coordinator experience at South Florida (2013) and Western Kentucky (2012).

Shephard served as the associate head coach, passing game coordinator and wide receivers coach at Washington the last two years, joining DeBoer’s staff after five seasons at Purdue. He was the Boilermakers co-offensive coordinator and receivers coach from 2018-21.

Huff spent the last two years on DeBoer’s staff but the last seven years in Seattle. Huff’s Husky offensive line won the 2023 Joe Moore Award as the nation’s top O-line unit. Last season, UW only allowed 12 sacks in 15 games (0.8 sacks per game), which was tied for the sixth-fewest in the country. For comparison, the Tide surrendered 49 sacks (T-129th).

Alabama will have two openings to fill on its offensive staff if Rittenberg is accurate as Shephard, Sheridan and retained running backs coach Robert Gillespie are all remaining.
