SEC Media Days will serve as the unofficial kickoff for football season this week in Nashville, and with the start of the annual event, we have an updated roster for Alabama’s 2023 season.

A fresh media guide revealed the jersey numbers for the seven scholarship players that joined the Crimson Tide team this summer, including transfers Trey Amos, Tyler Buchner and Jaylen Key. We already knew the numbers Buchner, Key and freshman linebacker Keon Keeley were set to wear in Tuscaloosa, Ala., but now the rest of the summer enrollees’ numbers have been unveiled for the upcoming campaign, whether true freshman or late transfer additions.

Updated info on Alabama’s summer enrollees

8 – Tyler Buchner, QB – 6-1, 215
22 – Jaylen Key, DB – 6-2, 210
23 – Trey Amos, DB – 6-1, 197
25 – Richard Young, RB – 5-11, 200
31 – Keon Keeley, LB – 6-5, 242
31 – Conor Talty, PK – 6-1, 195
42 – Yhonzae Pierre, LB – 6-3, 223

Most of the heights and weights were the same for the new players – meaning they were either their recruiting profile measurables or how they were listed at their previous schools. But both of the freshman outside linebackers were listed as an inch shorter than what Alabama listed them as when they signed. Pierre gained three pounds, while Keely’s weight was unchanged.

Alabama’s 2023 signing class ranked No. 1 nationally, according to the On3 Industry Rankings. The majority of the class was on campus for spring practice (24), and the overall group included seven 5-star prospects. Amos, Buchner and Key gave the Crimson Tide five total transfer portal additions to go along with tight end CJ Dippre and inside linebacker Trezmen Marshall.

In addition to the scholarship summer arrivals, UA added 15 walk-ons to the roster after spring practice. They included defensive backs Walter Sansing, Jake Ivie, Kolby Peavy and Conner Warhurst, receivers Sawyer Deerman, KJ Fleming and Tonio Ross, offensive linemen Davis Peterson, Mac Smith and Baker Hickman, linebackers Noland Asberry and Lane Whisenhunt, defensive lineman Billy Roby, snapper Brock O’Quinn and kicker Reed Harradine.

None of the jersey numbers or measurements for returning players changed from the spring, which was when Alabama last updated the heights and weights from last season’s roster.

Single-digit numbers are always popular, and Nos. 6 and 9 are still up for grabs. Nos. 1, 4, 5, and 7 only have one player currently occupying them, which means someone could claim the other this preseason, as long as those two players don’t play on the same side of the ball or the same special teams units. There could be some changes when the Tide starts practice.

Alabama will take its turn at SEC Media Days on Wednesday, July 19, with head coach Nick Saban set to be accompanied by returning starters JC Latham, Kool-Aid McKinstry and Dallas Turner. Stay tuned to BamaOnLine for continued coverage from the league’s media days.
