With SEC Media Days taking place next week, serving as the unofficial start for the 2024 college football season, Alabama updated its online roster to include the summer additions to the team, as well as new numbers for several of the Crimson Tide’s returning players.

Multiple numbers were up for grabs, including at least one at all the single-digits, and players – both old and new – scooped those up before Alabama opens fall camp this month.

Nine of Alabama’s returning players have changed numbers since the springtime, with five of them claiming single-digit jersey numbers. James Smith becomes the latest defensive lineman to switch to a number in the 20s, while rookie offensive lineman Casey Poe moved down 24 spots to No. 50 in a swap that allowed Kadyn Proctor to reclaim old number.

Proctor is one of six transfers who joined the Crimson Tide program this summer, although he is the most familiar with Tuscaloosa, having started all 14 games just a season ago. The three defensive backs who committed to Alabama during the spring transfer window will all wear a single-digit number, while kicker Graham Nicholson will now sport No. 14.

Jersey numbers for the remaining members of Alabama’s 2024 recruiting class are also now on the athletics site. Five-Star Plus wide receiver Ryan Williams will wear No. 2 during his first year, while wideouts Rico Scott and Amari Jefferson will wear numbers in the teens.

Defensive lineman Steve Mboumoua was not among the freshmen who were added to the Tide roster after signing with Alabama. As BamaOnLine publisher Tim Watts reported, the Canadian will attend Southwest Community College in 2024 before arriving at Alabama.
