Ryan Williams, tight ends held out of Alabama's second spring scrimmage

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Alabama’s quarterbacks were without some of their top passing options in Friday’s second spring scrimmage. After the 115-play, game-like practice, head coach Kalen DeBoer spoke to reporters and provided updates on two tight ends and a receiver.
“Battled through a couple of injuries at one position in particular – tight end,” DeBoer said. “I know in a week you’re going to see these guys, or not see them out there. Josh Cuevas, he’ll be good for the fall, but he’ll be done for the rest of the spring, and then Marshall Pritchett.
“So the tight end position went from kind of lean at one point with not all the guys are already here at that position. Kaleb Edwards isn’t here yet, and with Danny Lewis not practicing in the spring. So thin there.”
As DeBoer said, Alabama was already without Lewis, who he announced would miss the spring after practice No. 1. Pritchett, a true freshman, was seen with a bulky brace on his left leg earlier this week. Cuevas, the most experienced tight end on the Crimson Tide’s 2025 roster, is out, too, which leaves Alabama with only Jay Lindsey from a scholarship standpoint.

The Tide has more healthy options at the wide receiver position, but one of its top players didn’t participate in the second scrimmage. Ryan Williams was sidelined by an undisclosed injury and could potentially miss the rest of Alabama’s spring football camp, DeBoer said.
“We didn’t have Ryan scrimmage today,” DeBoer said. “Just taking care of him. We know what we have there. He might not do much the rest of the spring, and there’s a couple of nicks and things like that. But if you asked him, he’d be out there and scrimmaging.
“He’s dressed up and ready to go, but just being really careful with some things he’s going through here the last week or so.”
Alabama will return to the field on Tuesday, April 8, for its 12th practice of spring camp.
