Talented special teams transfer announces Bama commitment
One of the top available kickers in the NCAA Transfer Portal is heading to Alabama for the next chapter of his football career. Graham Nicholson, a transfer from Miami (Ohio), announced his commitment to the Crimson Tide on Sunday evening.
This was a quick turnaround for Nicholson as he just entered the portal on Friday, but Bama immediately became a top choice for him after leaving the RedHawks. Nicholson previously entered the portal on Dec. 5, but withdrew his name from it on Dec. 8.
Per the On3 Transfer Portal Rankings, Nicholson was the No. 9 available kicker in the portal.
During the College Football Awards show on ESPN in December, Nicholson received the top award for a kicker at the collegiate level. Nicholson won the Lou Groza Award, which is awarded annually to the best kicker in the game.

Last season, Nicholson connected on 27 of 28 field goal attempts, which led the nation for kickers with more than 20 attempts. One of those attempts was from 50-plus yards. Nicholson’s season, which included 25-straight made field goal attempts (NCAA record), also earned him All-American team honors from CBS Sports.

He spoke in December after winning the Lou Groza Award about what his approach is like to every kick.
“The season is long and it’s really hard to think of everything when it’s stacked and it’s more than just one kick at a time,” Nicholson said. “So when I can take them one kick at a time, it simplifies it and makes it easier for me to attack that.”
Nicholson, an incoming senior, has made 60 of 71 field goal attempts, good for a career accuracy mark of 85 percent. The Cincinnati (Oh.) native becomes the first player to commit to Alabama during the spring transfer portal window, which opened on Tuesday.
