Alabama signee Caleb Downs win National Player of the Year
Caleb Downs, Five-Star Plus+ safety from Mill Creek High School in Hoschton, Georgia, was named the MaxPreps National Player of the Year on Tuesday. The other finalists also included Jackson Arnold, Five-Star+ quarterback (Oklahoma signee), Roderick Robinson, four-star running back (Georgia signee), Rueben Bain, four-star defensive lineman (Miami signee) and 2024 quarterback Micah Alejado.
Downs completed his senior season with 83 tackles, 10 defended passes, five interceptions with two returned for touchdowns and a fumble recovery. He also had 811 total yards of offense and 23 touchdowns.
Downs is the No. 6 overall prospect and No. 1 safety in the 2023 cycle, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He is also the No. 1 player in Georgia.

Top 100 underclassmen reveal favorites
Josiah Thompson, Top 100 offensive tackle from Dillon High School in South Carolina, announced his top six schools which included Alabama, Clemson, Georgia, Miami, South Carolina and Tennessee. Thompson is considering a visit to Alabama for Junior Day on January 28.
Jordon Johnson Rubell, Top 100 Consensus safety from IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida, released a top 12 on Tuesday. The contenders currently include: Alabama, Arizona State, Colorado, Florida State, Oklahoma, Ole Miss, Oregon, Penn State, TCU, Texas, USC and Wisconsin.

Labaron Philon, a four-star point guard in the 2024 class, is down to six schools: Alabama, Arkansas, Auburn, Kansas, Ole Miss, and Tennessee. Philon has taken an unofficial visit to Alabama.

Elijah Moore, Top 100 shooting guard from Cardinal Hayes High School in New York, has a top five which consists of Alabama, Arkansas, Miami, Oklahoma State and Syracuse. He is considering an official visit to Alabama on Janaury 24.
Alabama: “They just want to win and send kids to the pros. I want to be a pro. They talk to me about their belief in me and what I can do. I really love the school’s environment and can’t wait to get out there to see what’s up. Coach Bryan (Hodgson) is a cool guy who gives a certain energy that I can feed off.”

Trentyn Flowers, the No. 5 shooting forward in the 2024 class, has a top five consisting of Alabama, Arkansas, Creighton, Louisville and North Carolina. He has taken official visits to Creighton and Louisville. The North Carolina native told Joe Tipton of On3 Sports regarding a decision “could happen anytime. For me, it’s all about wherever is best, and the place that’s the best fit for me and my family.”
