Alabama has yet to officially name a starting quarterback, but head coach Kalen DeBoer and offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb have both stated that if the Crimson Tide were set to play a game tomorrow, redshirt junior Ty Simpson would get the start behind center.

With Alabama scheduled to return to the field next week for the start of preseason camp, the likely starter shared a message to Crimson Tide fans in a video he posted on Instagram.

“When I get on the field, Alabama fans should know that I’m going to do everything it takes to win,” Simpson said. “I’m going to make sure that I’m the toughest guy on the field. I’m going to make sure that I win. I’m going to make sure that I know everything that’s coming. And I’m going to get the guys around me the ball.”

Simpson is the most experienced quarterback on Alabama’s 2025 roster, having spent the last two seasons as Jalen Milroe’s backup. The Martin, Tennessee, native has played in six games each of the last two years, and he threw for 167 yards on 14-of-25 passing in 2024.

Entering the offseason in a 3-man competition with Austin Mack and Keelon Russell, Simpson exited spring practice as the frontrunner in Alabama’s quarterback battle. He is going into his fourth year at the collegiate level and spent the previous three in Tuscaloosa, waiting his turn — a rarity in this day and age of not just football but also college athletics.

This offseason, Simpson has a prime opportunity in front of him to finally win the job.

“I think my journey’s been like no other, to say the least,” Simpson said. “I came here with dreams and aspirations of going to the NFL and leaving a legacy, and I feel like I can still do that.”

The video Simpson shared, courtesy of QB Reps, showed the quarterback hosting his Tide teammates at his house and cooking some food on the grill. Defensive lineman Tim Keenan, in addition to himself, mentioned that Simpson served up dinner for the other UA players.

While it’s a hobby for the fourth-year quarterback — “I love to cook, whether it’s cook for myself, or cook for the guys,” — it’s also a sign of the camaraderie of the 2025 Alabama team.

“One thing about our team this year, I feel like we’re just so close,” Simpson said. “Nobody feels like they’re bigger than the team. Nobody feels like it’s all about them. And if somebody doesn’t do their job, then it’s all on us.”
