WATCH: 5-star Bama QB pledge talks 2025 class, future of the Tide
Alabama’s recruiting class is one of the best in the country. The quarterback leading this group is Duncanville, Texas, High School product Keelon Russell. Along with being a Bama commitment, Russell is a five-star recruit, an Elite 11 Finals MVP, and the No. 6 overall senior in talent-rich Texas.
In last week’s season opener, Russell continued his momentum from the summer as he threw for five touchdown passes in a 34-12 victory over South Oak Cliff High School.
After his strong performance, he spoke with BamaOnLine in a video interview that covered a wide array of topics.
One of the questions posed to Russell was this – What’s the direction of Alabama football under Kalen DeBoer?
“Championships. Natties,” Russell replied. “Me and Coach DeBoer already have things situated. Every time I go up there, I say, ‘Coach, if you want to win national championships, put me in the game, for sure.’ I’ve got it locked down with him. He knows the basics. He knows the things that are going to make us win. I’m very confident in him.”

Russell also talked about the start to his senior season, the Tide’s 2025 class, and throwing to true freshman standout Ryan Williams in the future.
He’s also considering a return to Tuscaloosa for the Georgia game, and discussed what he’s looking forward to the most if he’s able to return on Sept. 28.
“What I’m looking forward to the most is the competition,” Russell said. “How do these dudes play with all the pressure in front of them? Playing one of the top-ranked teams in the country. Playing through adversity. I want to see how this team plays because we beat up on a lot of people. You know what I’m saying? Western Kentucky… we’re not going to talk too much about that.
“We beat up on a lot of people. When you’ve got those dudes that come out and are ready to show out like Georgia and all those other schools, it’s going to be fun. That’s what I’m looking for.”
