Alabama will kick off the 2024 football season on Saturday, Aug. 31, when it plays host to the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers (6 p.m. CT on ESPN). It will officially mark the first game of the Kalen DeBoer era in Tuscaloosa, Alabama after 17 years of Nick Saban at the helm.

The Crimson Tide has now held 25 preseason practices leading up to the start of the season, and we are inching closer to kickoff inside Bryant-Denny Stadium. On the eve of DeBoer’s first game, BamaOnLine staff members Charlie Potter and Jimmy Stein preview Alabama’s game against Western Kentucky and what they’ll be watching on Saturday evening.

The Alabama-related topics discussed by the guys include:

– The guys’ general thoughts on Alabama’s first game week thus far.

– Breaking down several position groups of interest, including the offensive line, receivers and cornerbacks – all of which could feature interesting rotations against the Hilltoppers.

– Defensive and offensive player(s) they’ll have their eyes on Saturday.
