The AP Top 25 Poll released its preseason men’s basketball rankings Monday morning, and the Alabama Crimson Tide, ahead of Year 6 with head coach Nate Oats, checked in at No. 2.

Alabama received 14 of 60 first-place votes.

It marks the fourth year in a row that Alabama has been ranked before the season and is the Tide’s highest preseason ranking since the 1990-91 campaign when Alabama was No. 7.

The Crimson Tide welcomed back five players from last year’s first-ever Final Four team and added four transfers and four true freshmen, who made up the No. 3 signing class in 2024, per the On3 Industry Rankings. Oats hasn’t shied away from the lofty expectations.

“We’ve had some really good teams here,” Oats said last month. “This might be the deepest, most complete, best roster we’ve had since we’ve been here.”

Alabama was one of nine schools from the Southeastern Conference among the AP’s top 25 teams for the preseason, along with No. 11 Auburn, No. 12 Tennessee, No. 13 Texas A&M, No. 16 Arkansas, No. 19 Texas, No. 21 Florida, No. 23 Kentucky and No. 24 Ole Miss.
