In this latest reveal, there were some Alabama commitments and targets who rose significantly due to how they’ve performed in their junior seasons thus far. BamaInsider highlights where Alabama’s 2024 targets and their commits stand in the new rankings.

Crimson Tide pledge receives a big bump in the latest On300

ATH Jaylen Mbakwe

New ranking: No. 7

Previous ranking: No. 5

Date of commitment to Alabama: July 26, 2022

The Skinny: Alabama’s highest-rated member of its 2024 class is Pinson (Ala.) Clay-Chalkville’s Jaylen Mbakwe. He fell just two spots in his national ranking, but remains the top-ranked athlete in next year’s recruiting cycle.

Mbakwe, who is committed to play in the 2024 Under Armour All-American Game as well, has shown off his potential this season. Mbakwe has made highlight-reel plays as a receiver, special teams return man, and defensive back.

The On3 Scouting Report praises Mbakwe for the versatility he shows on the field.

“Has outstanding play speed, backed up by a personal best of 10.74 seconds in the 100 meters mid-way through his sophomore track season,” the report reads. “Pulls away in the open field, easily out-running defenders. Dynamic with the ball in his hands both as a receiver and return man. Also shows the ability to separate on vertical routes. Returned several kicks for touchdowns. Also doubles as a productive defensive back, with high-level ball production, totaling 4 interceptions and 12 pass breakups as a sophomore.”

WR Perry Thompson

New ranking: No. 58

Previous ranking: Unranked

Date of commitment to Alabama: June 24, 2022

The Skinny: One of the biggest rankings jumps in the newest On300 belong to Foley (Ala.) product Perry Thompson. After previously being unranked, Thompson is now a top-60 overall junior and the No. 10 wideout in his class.

Thompson, who left his last game with a minor injury that won’t keep him out any longer, has been stellar this season. Thus far, Thompson has 749 receiving yards on 65 catches (11.5 yards per catch) and nine total touchdowns.

BamaInsider’s Jimmy Stein saw Thompson in person last month, and said the following about Alabama’s receiver pledge.

“Perry did show elite feet in his release off the line of scrimmage,” Stein wrote. “He snared a quick slant from the six-yard line and scored to close the gap with the Pirates to 25-22 at the half. Thompson would finish the game with 11 catches (wow) for 115 yards (also, wow). He caught TD passes of 6 and 13 yards and, in limited time at defensive back, delivered a key interception in the game.”

** Note: Alabama’s third 2024 commit, Martavious Collins, has fallen out of the On300 in the latest update.
