On Monday, On3 unveiled its updated 2024 On300. There were some significant changes near the top of the list, with an Alabama-based prospect earning five-star status. Most of Bama’s 2024 commits, excluding new verbal pledge Rico Scott, have spots in the updated On300.

Pair of Alabama commits remain in the top-20 overall

Alabama pledges Jaylen Mbakwe and Julian Sayin are the two highest-rated players in Alabama’s 2024 class. Per the On3 Industry Rankings, they are each five-star recruits.

On3 only has 11 five-stars at this juncture, though Mbakwe and Sayin remain high in the rankings. Mbakwe (No. 17 overall) and Sayin (No. 18 overall) only had one-spot drops from the previous rankings update.

Both Mbakwe and Sayin remain locked in with their commitments to Alabama. Mbakwe has been on campus multiple times this spring, with Sayin taking a multi-day visit last month. Alabama will host the pair of five-stars on campus for A-Day Game on April 22.

Mbakwe spoke with BamaInsider’s Andrew Bone about his recent visit to Alabama earlier this month.

“I really like their coaching style,” Mbakwe previously told Bone. “Coach T-Rob is outstanding at what he’s doing. He really helps guys understand what they are doing. He makes sure they know everything and gives everyone a shot.

“Coach Saban is a great guy. He is very hands-on with the DBs. I like that best about him. He was very intense and detail-oriented. He told me just be ready to come work. I could start my freshman year; just have to be willing to work.”

Other schools remain in pursuit of Mbakwe and Sayin, but both are standing firm in their commitments.

Perry Thompson continues to climb the rankings

Foley (Ala.) wide receiver Perry Thompson continues to climb On3’s Class of 2024 rankings.

Thompson went from unranked to No. 58 overall in our October update. He then moved up to No. 56 in the February release. Now, Thompson checks in at No. 39 overall and the eighth-ranked wideout in the country.

In his junior campaign, Thompson put himself on the map with 87 catches for 1,059 yards and nine touchdowns. Those 87 receptions broke his school record that was previously held by Julio Jones.

On3 Director of Scouting and Rankings Charles Power wrote the following about Thompson last fall.

“Alabama wide receiver commit Perry Thompson is one of the bigger, more physically-gifted pass catchers,” Power wrote. “The 6-foot-3, 205-pounder has plus length with arms that measure over 33-inches and straight line speed (11.1 second 100 meter time). The Foley (Ala.) High standout is a tough two-way player at the high school level but projects as a big, physical wide receiver with the athleticism to pick up yards after the catch.”

Following a visit to Alabama in March, Thompson told BamaInsider that his commitment status with the program is “back at 100 percent.” Auburn remains heavily involved, as well as Florida, Miami, and Tennessee.

Alabama Linebacker Commit Sterling Dixon

Staying in South Alabama, Bama linebacker commit Sterling Dixon went from No. 62 overall to just outside the top-100 at No. 102.

Dixon remains solid in his commitment with Alabama following a recent visit to the school. He spoke with BamaInsider about what’s keeping him locked in with the Tide and his thoughts on new inside linebackers coach Robert Bala.

Auburn, Colorado, and LSU continue to stay in touch with the highly productive defender.

Where in-state prospects check in at in the new On300

Phenix City (Ala.) Central wide receiver Cam Coleman is continuing his meteoric rise. Coleman went from unranked to No. 20 in the previous On300 update, and now checks in at No. 6 in the newest rankings release. He is also now a five-star prospect on On3.

Another double-digit riser in the rankings was Vestavia Hills High School EDGE Jordan Ross. Ross went from No. 40 to No. 27 and is the third-ranked EDGE in the nation. Only Colin Simmons and Dylan Stewart are ahead of him at the position.

Georgia linebacker commit Demarcus Riddick rose one spot in the new rankings, going from No. 37 to No. 36. Riddick has visited Alabama two times this spring, and will be back for the A-Day Game this Saturday. He spoke with BamaInsider recently about his thoughts on the Tide and his conversation with Nick Saban.
