The preseason AP Top 25 Poll was released on Monday, and Alabama checked in at No. 5.

This marks the lowest preseason ranking for the Crimson Tide since 2009 when Alabama was also voted fifth by the Associated Press. Today’s poll signals the end of a 14-season Tide streak of being among the top four teams in the country before the start of the season.

Alabama did go on to win its first national championship under Nick Saban in 2009. This fall will be the first with head coach Kalen DeBoer, who was hired to replace Saban in January.

This also marks the 33rd time Alabama has been ranked among the top five by the AP before the start of a season. The Tide is now tied with Ohio State and trails only Oklahoma (37).

Alabama was one of nine SEC schools to make the preseason poll, and the Crimson Tide will face five of those teams – Georgia, Missouri, LSU, Tennessee and Oklahoma – this fall.
