Four-star 2023 edge Ashley Williams of Zachary (La.) has de-committed from Nebraska one day after attending Auburn’s Big Cat Weekend. He was committed to the Huskers for three weeks.

He posted this note Sunday morning on Twitter: “I would like to thank the University of Nebraska, Coach Scott Frost, and Coach Mickey Joesph for your time and effort during the recruitment process. In light of recent events and lapse in communication, my family and I think it’s best that I decommit and refocus at this time. I want to express my gratitude for every opportunity and give a special shout out to Nebraska fans and Coach Joseph for his relentless efforts.”

Last week, Auburn Live projected Williams to flip to Auburn. Staff writers Keith Niebuhr and Jeffrey Lee put in picks with the On3 Recruiting Machine Prediction.

Williams had a great visit this weekend to Auburn

“I had a great time (at Big Cat Weekend). A great time with Coach (Roc Bellantoni) and Coach (Trovon) Reed and coach (Ben) Black,” Williams said Saturday. “I really had a good experience today.”

Auburn has a major need at the edge position.

Williams is listed at 6-foot-4 and 215 pounds. He is the No. 372 overall recruit in the 2023 On3 Consensus, a complete and equally-weighted, industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He also ranks as the No. 40 edge in the class and No. 20 recruit in Louisiana.

On3 ranks Williams higher than the industry average; it has him No. 274 overall in the country.

In a nutshell, it would be huge for Auburn to pick up his commitment.
