DeAndre Carter, a 4-star offensive lineman from Santa Ana (Cali.) Mater Dei, has announced his commitment date. Carter will commit to one of Auburn, Texas, or Michigan State on Sunday Sept. 3.

Carter is the No. 151 overall player in the country, the No. 8 interior offensive lineman in the country, and the No. 17 player in the talented state of California according to the On3 Industry Ranking.

Carter told On3’s Hayes Fawcett what it is he loves about Auburn.

“I love the coaches and the environment,” Carter told Fawcett. “I love the campus and the fans. Love the traditions there. Love what they have to offer for the education program.”

Carter told Auburn Live after his Big Cat Weekend visit that the family feel at Auburn was a big factor.

“Family, I mean I love everything, but probably the thing that stands out more than the others is probably just like the family atmosphere,” Carter said. “A lot of colleges say they have it but I definitely feel it a lot here.”

What was the message from coaches at the time?

“Just how much of an impact I can make,” Carter said. “How much importance and what I can do for myself here. What is best for myself. It is very important, it made me feel great. Just how important I feel, how important they make me feel and how I can contribute to the team.”

Two strengths

  • Carter has the ability and the size to be a road-grader in the run game. He mostly deals with single blocks as he plays left tackle, but he takes care of those 9 times out of 10.
  • There are just a few clips of Carter in a pass blocking situation at left tackle. So far, his feet look good enough to play at a high level on the college level, but he is probably best suited for the interior.

One area for improvement

  • Carter needs to shoot his hands and lock onto blocks a little bit better. There are times when he slips off of blocks because he isn’t using his hands consistently. He has all of the raw power, but some technique issues will take him up a step. He will learn that in college.
