Four-star Auburn linebacker target Lewis Carter of Tampa Catholic (Fla.) is likely to announce a commitment next month, he said Friday.
“I think probably Aug. 23 — my mom’s birthday,” Carter told Auburn Live.
Right now, four schools stand out to the touted recruit: “Oklahoma, Auburn, UNC and UCF,” Carter said. He plans to visit Florida the last week of July but the Gators have some catching up to do.
Auburn hosted Carter on an official visit June 17. With three weeks to reflect on that trip, Carter said Friday the Tigers impressed him on multiple levels.
Auburn impressed Carter on his official visit
“I enjoyed it,” Carter said. “It was good being around (linebackers coach Christian Robinson) and stuff like that. Great people. I feel like it’s a place I can be and see myself being at for three to five years.”
According to Carter, the No. 12 linebacker in the country in the On3 consensus, Robinson is the biggest reason the Tigers have a legitimate chance to sign him. And, he added, Robinson and the Auburn staff have made Carter a priority target.

“Mainly, it’s Coach Robinson,” Carter said. “There are just some things we went over in his office that I feel I can connect with on the field. He seems like a great person that wants to get to know you besides the football.”
Auburn currently leads for Carter in the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine (27.5%) with UCF (18.2%) next. Oklahoma is not in the RPM top four, yet some think the Sooners may actually be the favorite at the moment.
He could visit the Tigers again this season
“Man, it’s going to be a hard decision,” Carter said. “I’m trying to get through it. It’s just a blessing and I feel like God’s got me. He’ll help me make this decision and I’ll be okay. Feels like taking all this time, I’ll end up at the right place.”
And while Carter does not plan to attend Auburn’s Big Cat Weekend later this month, he said he “most likely will end up going to an Auburn game” in the fall — even if he doesn’t commit to the Tigers in August.
