4-star OT Wilkin Formby has 'the most important' visit to Auburn
Four-star offensive tackle Wilkin Formby visited Auburn on Monday.
It was Formby’s fifth visit to the Plains, but the one that stands out the most.
“It was one of the most important visits to Auburn that I’ve had, if not the most important visit,” Formby said.
Formby, from Northridge in Tuscaloosa, Ala., watched as the Tigers practiced in preparation for Saturday’s A-Day game. He kept a close eye on the offensive line, as well as the coaches, most notably offensive line coach Will Friend and coach Bryan Harsin.
“I got to see Coach Friend in action and Coach Harsin in action and the rest of the staff, too,” Formby said. “It was exciting to see practice. Coach Friend coaches with a passionate edge and he really cares about his players and developing them. He’s a really good coach.”
Formby also spent time with Friend off the practice field, as well as Harsin.
“I talked to Coach Harsin more on this visit,” Formby said. “It was the most I’ve ever gotten to talk to him. It was really good for me to pick his brain and get a feel for him.”
Impressed with Harsin, Auburn coaches
Formby was impressed with Auburn’s second-year coach.
“Coach Harsin is a great guy and a great coach,” Formby said. “He’s a great coach as far as Xs and Os, but he’s also a great person as well. All of the coaches are. They are good people as well as good coaches. They’re about relationships and important stuff like that. And they’re going to coach you and push you hard, develop trust with you so that they can coach you even harder.”

Formby left his fifth visit with high interest in Auburn. He plans to return before making a commitment.
“Auburn is a great program, for sure,” Formby said. “And I’ve been able to see Auburn in different atmospheres. I’ve been in camp, so I’ve been coached by them. I have been to practice, so I’ve gotten to see them coach. I’ve also seen the recruiting side of things, as well as a game. Their fans and how much energy they bring, it’s exciting going to games there. I feel like I have a good understanding of their program.”
Formby doesn’t list any favorites at this time. He plans to announce a top group of schools soon.
“I will do a top seven or top 10 shortly,” Formby said.
The On3 Consensus, a complete and equally-weighted, industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies, ranks Formby the No. 10 offensive tackle in the class and No. 132 overall recruit.
