4-star WR Karmello English commits to Auburn
Momentum is back with Auburn.
The Tigers on Monday landed a commitment from 4-star receiver Karmello English of Phenix City (Ala.) Central. He is the No. 13 recruit in the state of Alabama and No. 21 receiver nationally for the On3 Consensus.
English, listed at 5-foot-11 and 182 pounds, is commitment No. 4 in the 2023 class for Auburn.
He chose the Tigers over Michigan and Kentucky.
English had originally wanted to announce his commitment July 2, but postponed those plans last week without giving an explanation. Our intel, however, said Auburn still was the clear team to beat despite that change of plans.
With English’s verbal, Auburn moves up from No. 66 to No. 51 in the On3 recruiting team rankings. The Tigers were outside the top 90 just a few days ago.
Auburn’s Fourth of July weekend began Friday when 4-star running back Jeremiah Cobb of Montgomery Catholic (Ala.) committed to the Tigers.

Key to English’s commitment was the work done by first-year receivers coach Ike Hilliard.
English met with several coaches during an official visit to Auburn in late June, including Hilliard. He and Hilliard have developed a strong bond since Hilliard’s hiring in February.
“He always keeps it real with me,” English said. “He’s always been upfront with me since Day one. Coach Ike has kept it real with me and is always realistic. He doesn’t tell me what I want to hear. He tells me what I need to hear.”
Here is English’s On3 scouting summary: Productive possession receiver who stars for one of the top high school programs in Alabama. Measured at 5-foot-11, 175 pounds as a junior. Primarily worked out of the slot as a junior, catching 70 passes for 1,059 yards and 18 touchdowns. Advanced in his ability to locate and track the ball. Has a large catch radius with the ability to win in contested situations. Coordinated and nimble in the air. Shows good physicality as a runner after the catch. Has adequate straight-line play speed but no athletic testing to speak of. Not overly explosive in terms of change of direction. Older for the class, turning 18 years-old as a junior.
