Four-star running back Alvin Henderson of Elba (Ala.) signed with Auburn on Wednesday, the first day of the early signing period.

The Henderson File

Position: Running back

Height/Weight: 5-foot-9/195 pounds

Notable trait/Auburn fit: Henderson is battle-tested, he’s durable, he’s a workhorse, and he keeps getting better at the small details that make elite backs on the next level.

On3 Industry Ranking: (92.74) No. 127 overall, No. 7 running back, No. 8 in Alabama

Commitment date: June 21, 2024

Chose Auburn over: Penn State, Miami, Florida State

Time of enrollment: January

Notable: Henderson initially committed to Penn State, but a strong relationship with Hugh Freeze quickly changed that. After countless visits to Auburn, he flipped in the summer. Henderson has since broken 10,000 career rushing yards, which has never been done in the state of Alabama.

Quoteworthy: “When I talk to Coach Freeze, he lets me know every time that he feels like the 2025 guys are the icing on the cake. Obviously he got some guys in from the 2024 class, but he feels like the dudes coming in for ’25 will really put the cherry on top to get everything going. Me personally, despite the record, I have faith in Coach Freeze.”

Breakdown

***Breakdown written by Auburn Live Analyst Cole Pinkston..

— Henderson is a strongly-built 5-foot-9 195 pound running back with wide shoulders and plenty of room to add weight.

— He probably won’t set any records with 40 times, but has excellent game speed. He always seems to be fast enough to finish plays–that includes seeing him in person at an elite camp.

— Henderson churns his feet on contact very well. Some backs on the high school level have not mentally learned to do this. Henderson does this well right now.

— Henderson is a slasher type of back. He runs behind his pads well, but his first cut into the zone lanes will be his calling card if we are willing to bet.

— Right now, Henderson is conditioned to running more of gap scheme offense (designated hole to hit). He will have to learn the zone schemes and where to hit it depending on the play.. but his vision is already one of the best of any back in the class.

— Henderson reminds us of several different backs that have been through Auburn. He has acceleration like a Corey Grant and runs with that similar forward lean. Henderson is not as fast as Grant, but he gets to top speed similarly–very quickly.

— Vision certainly falls into this category, but Henderson just knows how to find grass, period. His NFL numbers that will be tested in a pro day one day, but those numbers won’t mean much to us whether good or bad. He is a strong running back and a big play threat at all times. That won’t change in college.

— New aged backs have to be able to catch the ball. In our opinion, this was the best thing Henderson did in the camp circuits. He has not had as much play in the passing game in high school, either. This should be a strong area of his game.

— Henderson is ready to compete for playing time as soon as he steps on campus at Auburn. The backfield will more than likely be without Jarquez Hunter, firstly, but Henderson is good enough to push for playing time. He is physically built to play in the SEC and the learning curve should not take too long. Much like Jeremiah Cobb as a freshman, Henderson has a skillset that will need to be utilized early.
