AUBURN — Auburn’s board of trustees voted to approve the initiation of a “multi-use” facility project in Jordan-Hare Stadium’s north end zone on Friday.

The vote grants approval of project initiation and authorizes the commencement of architect selection to move the project forward into formal design.

Per a university release, design work begins in earnest, the Tigers Unlimited Foundation will simultaneously launch fundraising efforts to support this transformative project to modernize Jordan-Hare Stadium and enhance the fan experience for the next generation of Auburn fans.

The north end zone renovations at Auburn have already started, with a $25.7 million project for a new videoboard. The approval on Friday was for the multi-use facility, an continuation of the project that’s already approved.

In June, final approval for the addition of a new state-of-the-art videoboard in the north end zone of Jordan-Hare Stadium was given.

“The Athletics Department and University Administration have proposed the construction of the Jordan-Hare Stadium North Endzone Multi-Use Facility. This transformative project aims to enhance the overall Auburn fan experience by providing modernized amenities,” per the meeting materials.

“The addition will combine premium seating, concessions, stadium support facilities, along with versatile conference event spaces, retail venues, student activity spaces, meeting rooms, as well as future shell space.”

The new north end zone videoboard will be 47 feet high by 154 feet wide, totaling 7,238 square feet of LED space. While the current south end zone videoboard remains the largest collegiate videoboard in the country at 10,690 square feet, the new north videoboard will also measure impressively as the sixth largest videoboard in the Southeastern Conference and a top-20 collegiate videoboard in the United States.

By today’s standard, the two videoboards combined will feature the most LED square footage of videoboard among all SEC schools.

All this comes on the heels of Auburn being in the midst of a $30 million renovation to Plainsman Park and following the completion of its new $92 million Woltosz Football Performance Center for the 2023 season. The football building is the largest project in school history.

At the time of the June approval of the project, Director of Athletics John Cohen said, “we are appreciative of the Auburn Board of Trustees for its continued support of Auburn Athletics and the Auburn Family.

“This videoboard project will not only take a big step in our efforts to provide a better aesthetic balance between Jordan-Hare Stadium’s north and south end zones and an improved sound experience, but more importantly will continue to modernize the fan experience for our fan base. It will also give our south end zone patrons, including our student section, an opportunity to have an unimpeded and straight-ahead view of a state-of-the-art videoboard.”
